Argo CD and Harness solve overlapping problems from opposite directions. Argo CD is a declarative, GitOps continuous delivery controller for Kubernetes and a CNCF graduated project. It watches Git repositories containing manifests, Helm charts or Kustomize overlays and continuously reconciles live cluster state against the desired state in Git. Harness is a commercial software delivery platform that packages continuous integration, continuous delivery and GitOps, feature flags, infrastructure-as-code management, security testing orchestration and cloud-cost management into one product with a managed control plane.
On core delivery mechanics, Argo CD is deeper for pure Kubernetes GitOps. ApplicationSets generate hundreds of Application objects from a single template, sync waves order rollouts, and drift detection plus automated self-healing keep clusters aligned with Git. Choose Harness if you want a single supported platform spanning CI, CD, feature flags and cloud-cost management, if you deploy to mixed targets beyond Kubernetes, or if you lack the staff to integrate and operate multiple open-source components. Harness is also the better fit when enterprise governance, audit trails and a vendor support contract are procurement requirements.
