Overview
Klaviyo is the dominant marketing automation platform for direct-to-consumer e-commerce, with deep native integrations to Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Shopify holds a strategic equity stake in Klaviyo and the platform is the default marketing automation choice for Shopify Plus merchants. Klaviyo went public in September 2023.
Klaviyo's plan structure is unusual in the category — features are identical across paid tiers, and price scales purely on active profile count and SMS credit usage. The platform offers a Free plan, an Email plan, and an Email + SMS plan; Klaviyo One (enterprise) kicks in automatically when monthly spend exceeds $10,000, adding 20% on top of the standard rate plus enterprise support and TAM access. As of February 2025, Klaviyo bills on 'active profiles' — a change from the previous 'profiles you email' model that materially increased some bills.
